Södergården was founded in 1916 by Herta Svensson in a Stockholm that was experiencing an influx of impoverished people from the countryside. This migration from rural areas to the cities led to overcrowding, poverty, and the growth of slums. Today, although society has developed a comprehensive social safety net in many areas, many people still find themselves excluded. The same mission that inspired Södergården more than a century ago remains unchanged: to strengthen social and cultural connections between people of all ages.
