M.A.D. draws on the deep well of night-time energy and will take the form of an immersive performance where audience and dancers share the dancefloor surrounding the DJ La Fraicheur. Dance, music, performers and audience question together the notions of community and uprising. In world where political, economic and climate issues are becoming more and more anxiety-inducing, the club – a community space for marginalised people to feel protected and free to express themselves— is now becoming an outlet for the whole population, one increasingly oppressed by the powers that be.
In the club they find space for emotional and physical release of their existential distress.
M.A.D. invites everyone to come together in celebration and create a positive uprising, a collective jubilation. M.A.D. is a response to the worldwide repression and in particular to the disappearance of Steve Caniço on 21 June 2019 in Nantes. It happened during a legal electro party where human beings, who were protesting with nothing more than their moving bodies, were charged by the police in a violent, disproportionate and dangerous way. The club must continue to be a space for protest and its existence as a place of freedom is an act of resistance to the moral order. We will continue to live, to dance, and to celebrate. We won't stop to mourn and we will never let authorities appropriate mourning to impose oppression on us. Celebrate to resist!
