Latvian experimental musician and artist Waterflower presenta their short film and music video "Dawning", from the album "Balta Gaisma", that was nominated for two 2021 Latvian Zelta Mikrofons awards in the categories “Best Experimental or Alternative Music Album” and “Best Album Design”.
The music video for "Dawning" was premiered as part of the 2ANNAS International Short Film Festival, with a presentation party and performance on the 9th April 2023, at Aleponija in Riga, Latvia.
"Dawning" is about nature coming alive, while also yearning to communicate in its own language - more precisely, water is the language, as Waterflower uses the capacitive differences they measure in plants and mushrooms to give these quiet, living things a “voice” when creating mushroom-music and plant-music. This short film and music video explores themes of awakening nature, utilising the stunning landscapes of the Baltic-Nordic region, shot in various locations in Latvia, Sweden, and Finland.
Dawning was completed during Kino Euphoria 2022 in Helsinki, though initially inspired by collaging footage made by Linda Graždanoviča (of performance artist Linda Boļšavikova) and time-lapse footage shot by Anna Grinčuka.
